Hello, I’m Emily!

I am a fantasy and sci-fi writer born and raised in Central Florida, and have been writing stories since I could hold a pencil in my hand. I find joy in the experimentation side of writing, always striving to conjure up unique worlds with vivid settings that transport readers to worlds beyond their wildest imaginations. I am currently working towards my Writing and Rhetoric B.A. degree with a minor in Creative Writing at UCF. I love storytelling in all its forms, so some of my favorite hobbies outside of writing include playing video games and aimlessly wandering the Disney theme parks.

The Long Version:

Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for reading and a curiosity to learn the art of storytelling. From a young age, I spent countless hours aimlessly wandering local bookstores, purchasing multiple books a week that I very well knew I didn’t have the space on my bookshelf for. The first books that really got me into reading were the Lucky Stars series by Phoebe Bright. Those books were also what made me fall in love with magical stories. Another childhood stand-out series to me was the Stick Dog series by Tom Watson. It was after reading the Stick Dog series in third grade that I was inspired to try my hand at writing my own short story in the same vein, but I still didn’t think about writing a book. It was thanks to an extra nudge from a teacher that I expanded that short story idea. The day after that teacher gave me that push, I went to school with a small, empty pocket notebook and returned home with an eight-chapter “book” that in reality was probably closer to 300 words. But it didn’t matter. I was hooked.

As I was discovering what types of stories I liked to write, I still spent a long time in bookstores, reading as many books as I could in a plethora of different genres. I ended up having to build a second bookshelf, then a third one, but I never stopped building my library. Some of my favorite books now include Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, the Defy the Night trilogy by Brigid Kemmerer and the Willa of the Wood series by Robert Beatty. I’ve also written a bunch of trunk novels throughout the years, honing my craft and writing voice. Between my novels, I’ve also been continuing to write short stories.

What I love about writing the most is experimenting and testing the boundaries of the written word. A lot of my writing work is in the fantasy genre, sometimes sci-fi, with some pieces even blurring the line between the two. However, because of my literal library-sized reading background, I love experimenting with a wide variety of genres, and often blend fantasy and sci-fi stories with mystery, dystopian—anything, really. No idea is too outlandish, and no “writing experiment” is considered a waste of time.

I see writing as a “journey,” one that really never ends because I’m always learning something new about writing– and sometimes, even about myself– and writing isn’t really something that can be “mastered” one day. It’s something I show up to every day and learn by doing, and I’d only really stop learning if I stopped writing. This is why, even when a piece is “market ready,” I’m always still looking for ways I could expand or improve on it. I’m constantly striving to learn and to have fun with my writing, and aspire to write character-driven stories that are emotionally gripping from beginning to end.

I’m currently enrolled in my senior year of college at the University of Central Florida, in pursuit of a B.A. degree in Writing and Rhetoric with a Creative Writing minor. I’m projected to graduate in 2026, and I hope by then I’ll have achieved publication for one of my short stories, as well as the more personal goal of completing my first publishable, full-length novel.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look into my writing works! It truly does mean the world to me.
